Not familiar with Ladurée? Shame on you. Ladurée serves us the best of the best macarons: small bon bon like cakes with fruity taste on them.

Laduree

Louis Ladurée founded a bakery on Rue Royale in Paris, back in 1862. Ladurée’s rise to fame came in 1930 when his grandson, Pierre Desfontaines, had the idea of the double-decker, sticking two macaron shells toghether with a creamy ganache as filling.

Desfontaines also opened a tearoom at the pastry shop. In those days ladies were not admitted to cafés, which were the exclusive domain of men. This was a big success with the ladies, who enjoyed meeting in the freedom of the tearoom rather than their homes.

Now, almost 80 years after the founding of the Ladurée macarons, you can find a collabbo with which other store than… Colette. A box of 4 macarons sells for € 9 at Colette.
